About the Piece:
“Veil of Tears” refers to the emotional and physical pain inflicted on women and
their families as a result of the recent ruling by the Supreme Court on Roe v.
Wade. The shape of this piece is based on the “Vesica Pisces” or The Fish,
found throughout most ancient cultures. In sacred geometry, this symbol is the
basis for the Flower and Tree of Life, said to depict the harmonic elements of the
universe. It is seen as symbol of strength, power and the divine feminine.
I created the imagery of this piece by layering elements onto the oval hollow
form. This includes the woman’s hair, eyelid, eyebrow, eyelashes, and tears. I
enjoyed this additive process of layering pieces gradually, finishing with flecks of
gold leaf. Making this piece took me on a technical and emotional journey, of
creating with my hands but also with my heart and higher self.
Divine feminine energy represents many things, and in this case I am drawing
out those aspects of healing, empathy, compassion, love and life. The woman
in this piece represents women across the world as well as the goddess energy
that exists within all of us.
